Safer Car

Today as I was reading the Star newspaper (Sarawak edition), I came across an article, 'Night out ends in flames'.
I'm sure some of you might have read this article as well. My deepest condolence to the young deceased family & friends.
23-years old man driving a Toyota Vios, failed to escape his burning car which had crashed along Jalan Song, here in Kuching. He was said to be driving at a high speed when he lost control of his car.

This post is strictly just to share my point of view.

Who is to be blame for such accident? The lost control & car burning after crash.
Modern car are suppose to safer compare to their ancestors. Cars nowadays are design to be very stable with all the drivers assist such as ABS, EBD and etc. Which mean that losing control at speed of 120-140km/h is very rare case! How fast can you go along Jalan Song?? I personally never go more than 160km/h.
Toyota Vios is using torsion beam suspension in the rear.
" It is cheap to design and manufacture, compact with little boot space intrusion, and although ride and handling are theoretically inferior to more sophisticated designs", quoted from wikipedia.
For that, I would think that the design of the car is to take part of the blame.
This doesn't mean the car is not good! It just mean that this car is not design to & not suitable to be driven at very high speed!

How often you hear car burn after crash before RON95 was introduced? Ever since RON 95 was introduced, there are getting more & more cases car catches fire even while driving. This is due to the nature of lower RON rating fuel will be burn much easily compare to higher RON rating fuel.
This is just my own speculation, no proof for this statement.

Remedy for such problem?
1. Improve car handling by upgrading suspension. OEM setup is not the best due to cost efficient during mass production!
2. Improve brake system. Same reason as above.
3. Improve chassis strength. Using chassis strengthening bar. Even Vios owner from Brunei come all the way to Malaysia to buy chassis bar. This will reduce chassis flex & body roll, thus improve handling.
4. Never compromise on tyre as it's the only contact between the road & your car! Use better quality brand & change tyre every 3-4 years.
5. Use RON 97 fuel. Are you willing to take the risk? I'm not willing to.. Or add octane booster to increase the octane rating of the fuel you use. Save more fuel, more power & most important is safer!
