The 2016 HR-V shares the same platform as the third-generation Honda Fit. The release of the 2016 HR-V allows the Honda Motor Co., Ltd to offer three size choices in CUV models; starting with the HR-V, the Civic-based CR-V, and finally the Accord-based Honda Pilot. The 2016 Honda HR-V shares its 1.8L R18A1 inline-four cylinder engine with the 2006+ JDM & North American market Honda Civic. While 1.8L R18A1 SOHC VTEC engine provides reasonable performance, considering it is tuned to maximize miles per gallon, a K&N high-flow replacement
